Situated just south of the New York border, Upper Saddle River is a five-square-mile town whose residents—many of whom are doctors, Wall Street professionals and successful entrepreneurs—are the most affluent in New Jersey. With a population of 8,300, this town is one of the smallest in population in northern New Jersey.
The town—not to be confused with Saddle River, which it borders to the south—stretches across rolling hills which once were occupied by apple orchards and dairy farms. Folks from more urban parts of New Jersey would escape to the area to enjoy the pastoral scene, including Anona Lake, a man-made recreation site in the northwestern part of town. While many of the farms have disappeared throughout the years, the quiet beauty of this lovely community remains as much a treasure to current residents as it had been for generations which have preceded them.
Upper Saddle River enjoys a mix of older and newer homes, many of which are sprawling estates, as well as the private community that sprang up on Anona Lake. Schools are excellent; students attend one of 3 elementary schools (Bogert Elementary, Cavallini Elementary, & Reynolds Elementary) as well as Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale which has been ranked on New Jersey Monthly’s list of the state’s top high schools.
Homes in Upper Saddle River are some of the largest and most elegant you will find in all of Bergen County as well as Northern New Jersey. Lot sizes reflect the large estate size homes that occupy their space. Many homes range from 4,000 to 8,000 sqft and larger. Northern New Jersey, generally thought to consist of the counties of Bergen, Essex, Morris, Somerset, Warren, Passaic, Union, Hudson, and Sussex, is an enticing and enchanting place to buy a home.
